Are there other science forums comparable to 3.14chan's /sci/?

(aside from 4chan, scichan, and Google top results that I already checked out and are nowhere near 3.14chan quality)

Thanks, I found an entertaining French board with a nice science & tech section: http://www.underfoule.net/lhc/, but it's 80% tech support, and the rest of the science boards are either deserted or no good.

..so I'm now trying to contact 3.14chan's admin to clear some preliminary matters but he left no email address, I hope he's still checking his PM on the other forums where he used to be active...

Robots! Farnsworth 12/6/2010(Sat)12:18:40 No.685370    [Reply]
So long do you think it will be before we have inteligent, autonomous robots like in Futurama or the droids in "Star Wars"?
Will they be able to make robots that look human like "ghost in the shell"? or giant robots like in gundam?

I think 50 years is a good bet.

Giant militar robots I doubt. a giant robo isn't good in combat. Better make a jet fighter computer controled or swarm robots.

Farnsworth 16/7/2010(Fri)08:33:57 No.755532
50 years, that's a long time. I was hoping they'd discover how to turn humans into robots within my lifetime as I am almost 40 now. Being an android like in ghost in the shell would be best, but i'd settle for being a regular robot like Bender.

You might live more than 90 years with the advances during these 50 years. Also, if they can transport your mind to a machine why bother with a body? Just go to the virtual world and be wathever you want!

3.14chan admin here

Sorry for leaving this board. I created this board because there were no sign that moot would make a science board on 4chan and I planned to give a place for the people into science. If you really want to help post a contact email on the suggestion board so we can talk.

I think 4chans /sci/ has killed this board completely. Shame cause this board had such a low troll ratio in comparison. So anyway, just checking if anyone still comes here.

Still expecting πchan to rise from its ashes once /sci/ will complete its transmutation into utter shit.

Even relevant threads are becoming hardly bearable due to a number of unpleasant people who are the opposite of πchanners, answering aggressively or in a pompous way to candid questions, basically spending their time belittling each other while failing to articulate in simple terms the little knowledge they have..

Besides lack of gentleness and humility aside I doubt these people have the right approach to science at all. As Brian Cox put it well in an interview about Sunshine:

>I've discovered this whole new set of people that I didn't know existed, really. They're interesting. They're almost fundamentalists, in a way. They are much more pedantic than professional scientists. I just interact with professional scientists most of the time and I must say, I've said this a couple of times now, but I've found the scientists that I like to work with particularly - ther

The return of trepanation Anonymous 18/6/2009(Thu)11:00:25 No.77180    [Reply]
IN THE early 1960s, a young Russian neurophysiologist called Yuri Moskalenko travelled from the Soviet Union to the UK on a Royal Society exchange programme. During his stay, he co-authored a paper published in Nature. "Variation in blood volume and oxygen availability in the human brain" may not sound subversive, but it was the start of a radical idea.

Decades later, having worked in Soviet Russia and become president of the Sechenov Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry at the Russian Academy of Sciences in St Petersburg, Moskalenko is back in the UK. Now collaborating with researchers at the Beckley Foundation in Oxford, his work is bearing fruit.

And strange fruit it is. With funding from the foundation, he is exploring the idea that people with Alzheimer's disease could be treated by drilling a hole in their skull. In fact, he is so convinced of the benefits of trepanation that he claims it may help anyone from their mid-40s onwards to slow or even reverse th
